Working to prevent future massive flooding in Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG – An assistant professor at Bloomsburg University is working to prevent future massive damage during flooding — through a series of studies on Fishing Creek.   Dr. Jennifer Whisner is a geology professor and says Fishing Creek caused serious damage to Bloomsburg in 2011. Whisner said, “The Fishing Creek Watershed is actually a pretty large watershed that feeds a tremendous amount of water through primarily Columbia County into Bloomsburg.  Anybody who has been familiar with the floods of 2011 may know that tremendous damage came from water in the Susquehanna, but Fishing Creek had tremendous power, so much water in it, and it blasted homes right off their foundations.” That’s why Whisner and her students...
